Inside Timeline’s Lab: Meet Isha Rana

Meet Isha Rana, PhD, and Timeline Research Scientist, advancing Urolithin A science and redefining skin longevity from the mitochondrial level.

Isha Rana

What to know

  • Mitopure® (Urolithin A) works at the mitochondrial level, addressing a core hallmark of cellular aging.

  • Dr. Isha Rana is one of Timeline’s world-class researchers studying how Mitopure can impact the aging process.

  • She brings her expertise in dermatology, fibrosis, and translational skin biology to help advance our knowledge of skin aging.

At Timeline, innovation does not begin with trends; it begins in the lab.

Every product is rooted in years of mechanistic investigation, translational biology, and rigorous experimental modeling. While the skincare world often moves at the speed of marketing cycles, Timeline moves at the speed of science.

The mission is simple but ambitious: understand the biology of aging at its root, and translate those insights into meaningful, accessible interventions. That work happens because Timeline brings together some of the brightest minds in aging science, mitochondrial biology, dermatology, and translational research. Rather than chasing buzzwords and marketing trends, we invest in world-class scientists with deep expertise and a shared commitment to advancing the science of longevity.

Scientists like Dr. Isha Rana are at the center of that work.

Allow us to introduce you to a world-class scientist and key member of Timeline’s Research and Development team, Dr. Isha Rana.

From Skin Biology to Cellular Longevity

Isha’s path to Timeline began long before she joined the company. Her fascination with skin science started during her doctoral training. As she explains:

“I earned my PhD in Dermatology from the Institute for Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine (in Stem) in Bangalore, India, where I studied the biology of skin scarring and fibrosis.”

Her doctoral research centered on therapeutic targets to prevent fibrosis, work that required deep mechanistic investigation and strong translational relevance. For Isha, skin science was never just academic.

“I was drawn to skin research because of its direct impact on people’s lives. Skin health is something everyone relates to, and understanding the biology behind it felt both scientifically challenging and personally meaningful.”

After completing her PhD, she moved to Germany to join QIMA Monasterium in Münster as a Study Lead and Study Manager. There, she led external research projects for pharmaceutical and biotech partners, developed customized in vitro systems, and strengthened her expertise in project management and cross-functional collaboration.

This combination, academic rigor and applied industry experience, would become foundational for her next step.

Why Timeline?

Isha first encountered Timeline’s work while reading research related to Urolithin A during her PhD. Later, while working in Germany, she became increasingly intrigued by the company’s scientific approach.

What stood out most was the depth behind the molecule.

“It was not a hype-driven ingredient, but a molecule supported by rigorous investigation.”

She was particularly drawn to the idea that Urolithin A could influence cellular health at a fundamental level.

“The idea that this compound might meaningfully impact cellular health, rather than just the surface, really resonated with me.”

What Makes Urolithin A Different?

Skin health is one of the most trend-driven categories in wellness. Every year brings a new “hero ingredient.” But Urolithin A stands apart.

As Isha explains: “What makes Urolithin A different is the depth of mechanistic science supporting it.”

Many skincare ingredients focus on visible improvements at the surface. Urolithin A operates deeper.

“Urolithin A, in contrast, works at the mitochondrial level, targeting one of the fundamental hallmarks of cellular aging.”

By improving mitochondrial function and supporting cellular energy systems, it addresses biological processes such as mitochondrial decline, inflammation, and cellular senescence. For Isha, this distinction matters.

“It is not about chasing trends or creating hype, but about understanding biology in a meaningful way.”

When asked how she would rank Urolithin A compared to more familiar skincare ingredients, she reframes the question entirely.

“Rather than ranking Urolithin A in a traditional sense, I see it as operating in a fundamentally different category… Instead of focusing only on outward appearance, it targets core mechanisms associated with cellular aging.”

Hydration, exfoliation, and barrier support all have their place. But Urolithin A focuses on foundational biology. In her view, it does not replace traditional ingredients, it complements them, strengthening skin health from within.

Advancing the Science of Mitopure®

At Timeline, research and application go hand in hand. As a Research Scientist, Isha designs and leads experiments that deepen the company’s understanding of Urolithin A in skin biology. Her work includes developing new assays, introducing advanced in vitro and ex vivo models, and exploring previously uncharacterized cellular pathways.

“I am particularly excited about investigating how Urolithin A interacts with hair follicle biology, especially its effects on hair growth.”

The lab is continuously expanding its models and research questions, pushing beyond what is already known.

“With every new model and research question, we move closer to understanding how to support cellular health in a more meaningful and mechanistically grounded way.”

Living the Science

For Isha, longevity is not just a professional pursuit, it is personal.

“Outside the lab, I live the principles I study.”

She prioritizes physical wellness through running, cycling, and regular walks, often practicing intermittent fasting as part of her routine.

“I incorporate Mitopure and Timeline’s full skincare line into my daily regimen.”

“When I am not in the lab or office, I love traveling, especially exploring mountainous landscapes and observing nature’s diversity.

The Future of Skin and Cellular Health

“For me, the journey with Mitopure is just beginning.”

With new models, new assays, and new biological questions emerging, the science of Urolithin A continues to evolve.

“I am excited about what is next, not just for Timeline’s research, but for the future of skin and cellular health.”

At Timeline, longevity science is not a marketing claim; it is an ongoing investigation. And inside the lab, researchers like Isha are ensuring that every product rests on a foundation of rigorous, mechanistic discovery.
